Lasting Powers of Attorney Time Frames and Key Stages

Clarkson Hirst Solicitors Limited

The process generally takes between 14 and 25 weeks. Factors which may influence the time frame include how many Attorneys you are appointing and whether they live abroad, as it will take time to send documents for them to sign. The registration process with the Office of the Public Guardian can depend upon how busy they are and this may have an impact on the overall timeframe. If you need to register a Power of Attorney urgently though, we can apply to expedite the application.

Key Stages

  1. Meet with you to explain the Power of Attorney and take your instructions to complete the forms.
  2. Send you the forms for approval.
  3. Meet with you again to sign the forms and where we can act as a certificate provider, confirm that we have explained the forms to you and you understand the nature and effect of what you are signing.
  4. Send the forms to your Attorneys to sign and return.
  5. Apply to register the Attorneys with the Office of the Public Guardian.
  6. Notify you when the forms have been registered and invite you to come and collect them.
